Yoga is a means for realizing the hidden potential in each moment. This intensive will be a blending of dynamic asana practice and self study. We will use this time together to clarify the relationship between what we love, what we believe in, and what we do. Come prepared to challenge yourself. The intensive is open to all who wish to explore yoga as an evolutionary journey--The only “requirement” is that you… “show up, do your best…and let your best be good enough.”
These sessions are meant to be taken as a whole but individual sessions are also available.

Lovingkindness meditation is deceptively simple yet extremely powerful. It immediately opens and softens the heart, and over time can break down strongly ingrained patterns of animosity and negativity towards ourselves and others. As we begin to trust our innate capacity for goodness, we also find out that it can grow. In fact, pervading the whole universe with goodwill is not only pleasurable but a practical strategy for living. Why not? In this three hour workshop, Kate Lila Wheeler will teach basic techniques from the Buddhist tradition. Beginners and experienced practitioners welcome.
Kate Lila Wheeler began practicing Buddhism in 1977 and was ordained for a short time as a nun in Burma, leaving during the 1988 uprising. She teaches meditation all over the US. A prizewinning fiction writer and journalist, she lives in Somerville.

Whether you are just approaching headstand and bakasana or are mastering the finer points of handstand and koundinyasana, the same principles of rooting down to lift up will leave you airborne! Backbends bring up emotions for many of us- they may leave you feeling vulnerable or unsupported. In this workshop with Kate, we will explore backbending from a place of strength and grace. Learn how the foundation of your legs, integration of your shoulders, and support of your back body can open your heart to a new degree. Backbends are a beautiful expression of joy and surrender- and that very act of giving may be your greatest strength. This class will leave you believing: anada beya; "I am joy."

You will gain a thorough understanding of the principals which when applied create a class for all ages and body types. This will include a specific sequence and more importantly the method for adapting that sequence to the infinity of opportunities implied by the word Yoga. This method enables what you teach to grow as you and your students do.
The first Yoga teacher in the U.S. Swami Vivekananda wrote: “You yourselves are the being that you seek.” During this training you will have direct experience of the truth of that statement. When you leave this training you will know how it is people reach their potential and you will be able to apply that knowledge to accomplish your goals. You will be the change you want to see in your life.
One of the joys of being a teacher is that your Yoga practice becomes part of your job description. During this training you will begin each day with asana, meditation, and pranayama instruction and practice. You will be taught the therapeutic principles that will allow you to practice safely with intensity. You will be able to sit comfortably for a 45 minute meditation session during which you will experience what it means to rest in stillness. You will be proficient in breathing techniques that awaken and build heat, preparing the mindbody for asana, and breathing techniques that are cooling and soothing preparing the mindbody for meditation. On your mat the implementation of therapeutic principles will be dramatic. You will experience a vibrant aliveness from which there is no going back.
