We Moved!
Come Visit Us at our New Location: 364 Boylston Street

Greetings!

It is with great joy (and some sadness of course) that BBY is moving. Our current space will be in good hands with one of the local colleges. And we have found a better space for our needs.

I know that all change requires a shift. I thank you for your patience and willingness to embrace this shift. Although I have been very blessed with our current space, changes like this provide us all an exciting opportunity to create external and internal transformation. I am loving the reminder to consistently surrender to impermanence and evolution.

Please join me and the entire BBY staff in celebrating this exciting new chapter!

Lynne

Deeper Practices with Arthur Kilmurray

Wednesdays: See Dates Listed Below
7:30 to 9:30pm
Arthur Kilmurray

Looking to go beyond your current yoga practice? Learn More, Fine Tune and Incorporate great wisdom into what you already know. These classes are recommended for those with at least 1 Year Yoga Practice or More.

July 15: Core Strength in Yoga
Most 'core' work in modern physical fitness involves in strengthening the gross body aspects of the core. In yoga we explore deeper levels to uncover the subtle body core, where organs and fluids awaken to support muscle and bone to allow a fully embodied strength, flexibility and creativity to be expressed.

August 5: Opening the Hips: Finding Alignment and Flow in Postures and Movement
Although by design and structure the hip joints allow an amazing amount of possible movement, most students find the hips to be a source of compression and tightness. We will discover how grounding and opening the feet and connecting the feet to the pelvis will open up pathways of energy flow that relax and educate the deeper hip muscles, leading to more precise internal alignment. Thi s will in turn allow the larger muscles of the legs, hamstrings, adductors and quads, to work in a more integral way with the core of the body.

September 23: Finding the Roots of Posture: Mula Bandha and the Pelvic Floor
Mula bandha is a subtle body action. Using feet, breath, core, and some exploration of the relevant anatomy we will explore the various components of the pelvic floor combine to create the mula bandha and take this experience into your favorite poses.

October 21: Integral Movements of the Shoulder Girdle in Yoga Postures
An integral exploration of hands, forearms, upper arms and shoulders to develop strength and flexibility in all types of yoga postures and movements.

November 11: Backbending Poses from the Subtle Body
We will open the core flow through hands and feet and use this to safely explore deeper layers of the spinal column revealed in back bending asanas.

December 9: Embodying the Yoga Sutras: Lessons from Patanjali
Patanjali was an early neurobiologist. We will look at how his teachings on yoga reveal a deep sense of the inner world we can all experience th rough a spiritually embodied asana practice.

About the Teacher:

Arthur Kilmurray is one of the leading yoga instructors in the United States . He is currently studying Advaita Vedanta under the guidance of Swami Dayananda, the Non-Dual teachings of Eckhart Tolle, and Dzogchen, and integrating these enquiries into his yoga classes. His asana (yoga postures) instruction is informed by over 29 years of study in the system devised by Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar and his annual studies with his primary teacher, Ramanand Patel.

Mukesh Desai, master artist and teacher of classical Indian vocal music and Ramanand's partner in "Yoga and Sound" has for 14 years provided Arthur an in depth immersion in the nature of sound and breath. The influence of movement pioneers Emilie Conrad, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and Caryn McHose have greatly broadened his perspective on the classical poses and the relationship between form and flow in them. Thomas Berry, Brian Swimme and Ken Wilber provide a cosmic perspective for understanding the historical moment and the unfolding of human consciousness. Arthur sees the yoga poses as vehicles to embody the spiritual connectedness of our own physical existence with Mother Earth and the Living Kosmos and as an entry point into the Great Awakening.

Anusara Master Classes with Marc St. Pierre

July 29, August 19
Wednesdays 7:30pm- 9:30pm
Marc St. Pierre

About the Teacher:

Marc St. Pierre is a Senior Certified Teacher of Anusara Yoga. He has toured with John Friend in Japan and just recently in Boston. Marc had the good grace to introduce and establish Anusara on the island of Maui where he has lived the last seven years. He has taught in London, Australia, Prague and returns to Maui to teach Immersions.

He got his start at City Yoga in LA where he practiced with Sue Elkind, Naime Jezzeny and Anthony Benanati. Marc is thankful to be moving to the East Coast to share the Spirit of ALOHA!

About Anusara Yoga:

Anusara Yoga's remarkable popularity is due in large part to its uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a "celebration of the heart," that looks for the good in all people and all things. Consequently, students of all levels of ability and yoga experience are honored for their unique differences, limitations, and talents. This life-affirming vision sets the basis for a yoga system in which the harmony and joy of a tightly knit community is exulted. Not only is Anusara Yoga an elegant system of alignment principles and non-dual philosophy, but it is also a wonderful community of highly trained teachers and fun-loving students. This community feels like it has the tightness of a family, yet the looseness of a merry band of bohemian artists. To Learn More about Anusara Yoga, Visit www.anusara.com

David Swenson Ashtanga Teacher Training / Yoga Immersion

September 14th-20th

David Swenson

This 40-hour course is designed as an intensive immersion into the teaching techniques of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

This course will cover the teaching techniques of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. The participants will learn safe and effective hands-on adjustments through partner work for all of the asanas, practicalities of conducting a class and yoga theory. This is a deep immersion into the details underlying the practice and teaching of Ashtanga Yoga. One need not be a teacher to attend or even desire to be a teacher. Many students have attended this course to merely enhance their personal practice. Those that do wish to teach however will find a wealth of invaluable tools to share with their students.

Participants should have a consistent personal practice of Ashtanga Yoga and understand the flow and sequencing of the asanas. The course is not designed as an avenue to learn the sequence but rather to learn to teach Ashtanga Yoga or to deepen an existing practice.

As in all courses run by David Swenson there is sure to be plenty of laughter and fun woven into the experience. You are sure to learn more than you ever imagined possible in a weeklong course and have a great time in the process.

ALL LEVELS WELCOME! Don’t miss this opportunity!

Training Schedule

Day 1-5: 8am-11am and 1pm-4pm
Day 6: 8am-12 Noon and 2pm-4pm
Day 7: 8am-12 Noon
FINISH (Note that the final day has only the one session for 4 Hours)

About the Teacher

David Swenson began practicing yoga at a very early age in 1969 at the age of 13. His older brother Doug was his first teacher. They practiced hatha yoga from whatever books they could find. David's introduction to Ashtanga came in 1973 when he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, California. In 1975 David and Nancy brought K. Pattabhi Jois to the U.S. for the first time and Swenson was fortunate enough to be there. He then initiated studies directly with the master. Swenson made his first trip to Mysore in 1977 and learned the full Ashtanga system as it was originally taught by K. Pattabhi Jois. David Swenson is recognized today as on of the worlds foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga. In the last five years David has produced 5 Videos, 4 Audios and written the highly popular book: Ashtanga Yoga “The Practice Manual”. David has just released 5 new DVD’s, 3 CD’s and a series of Laminated Practice Cards.

About Micheline Berry

Micheline Berry is a dancer, yoga teacher and award-winning filmmaker and has led over 300 ecstatic dance journeys since 1996. She has a powerful ability to bring people together and to inspire their creativity, transformation and joy through the healing arts of yoga, dance, meditation and music. As founder and director of Zen Dancing, she has collaborated with world percus-sionist Craig Kohland since 1997 to develop the Shaman‘s Dream World Groove Ensemble into the essential musical component to the Zen Dancing ecstatic trance dance process. She also guides ecstatic dance journeys to pre-recorded world beat and electronica music which she spins herself under her dj alias “dj buddha chick.“ As the facilitator of Zen Dancing‘s Ecstatic Dance and World Music Journeys, Micheline doesn‘t “teach“ one how to dance, but rather gently guides people into a deep, meditative connection to their own organic movement through occasional verbal suggestion, poetry and the embodiment of her own primal dance.

Micheline's vinyasa flow yoga classes combine Anusara, Ashtanga and Iyengar influences and are informed by her years of study of Tantric Buddhism & Native American purification ceremonies. Dynamic, yet deeply nurturing, her classes take you to your edge with a focus on: opening the heart; cultivating your organic, core power; releasing psychological & physiological contractions; and experiencing a vital, empowered & embodied state of being.
